Privacy
This is the privacy notice for Backrooms RPG (Fox Journey Studio; author: Hulin). It explains what data the game stores, what it's used for, and who can see it.
Signing in
- You sign in with Google (handled by Google Firebase). The game's server only receives your Google account ID, which it uses to recognize you.
- The server does not store your email and never gets your password. At the moment you sign in, it checks whether your email is on the “special badge” list (for example, the author's own account), then discards it.
- Firebase's sign-in console keeps a record of the Google accounts that have signed in (including emails). Only the author can see it.
Game progress
- Memory Shards, unlocked characters and perks, your Collection, account level, number of adventures, and the deepest point you've reached on each difficulty.
- The results of each adventure (levels reached, enemies defeated, time taken, dice-roll statistics), used to award Memory Shards, prevent cheating, and build the leaderboard.
- Your in-game name (recent names are kept, visible only to the author, to deal with inappropriate names) and your avatar (avatars are stored only on your device and sent to the other players in the same room when you join).
- Game version and platform (PC, web, mobile), so the author knows who is still on an old version.
- While you're in a room: the room type, the room code, whether you're in the lobby or on an adventure, and a random ID for that room (used to find people in the same room). IP addresses are not recorded for direct-IP rooms.
- While the game is open, it regularly asks the server whether the author has sent you a message; the server records the last time it asked (so the author can see that your game is open).
- To stop request flooding, the server briefly records connecting IP addresses for rate limiting, and deletes them when the time is up.
Messages from the author
- The author can send you messages (to you only, or to your whole room), and you can reply to messages the author sends.
- These messages and your replies are stored on the server (only the most recent ones are kept for each person). Only you and the author can see them; other players can't see your replies.
Patreon (only if you press “Link Patreon” yourself)
- Your Patreon account ID, your support tier, your subscription status, and the time of your last successful charge, used to give you in-game rewards.
- The game never gets your payment details (credit cards and PayPal stay with Patreon), and it doesn't store your Patreon name or email.
- You can “Unlink” at any time in the game.
What other people can see
- Leaderboard: your in-game name, badge, levels reached, and time taken.
- Credits (people who linked Patreon): your in-game name. You can choose not to be listed under “Look & Badges” in the game.
- People in the same room: your name, avatar, badge, and character.
- Other players cannot see your account ID, email, or Memory Shard count.
Who can see all the data
- Only the author (the admin page requires signing in with the author's own Google account). It's used to handle problems and prevent cheating.
- If a name is inappropriate, the author can replace it and lock it for a while.
Where the data is kept
- Google Firebase (sign-in, website), Cloudflare (the game's server and database, and the web version's large files), Unity (room-code connections), Patreon (only for people who link).
- Data is never sold to anyone and is never used for advertising.
Use of AI
- The game's text is written by the author, and AI is then used to fix the author's typos and tone.
- The English version was translated from the original Chinese with the help of AI.
To delete your data, or if you have questions
Send the author a private message on Patreon (patreon.com/cw/u15571073) and tell them your in-game name.
